    February 2018 Membership Meeting

    At this meeting, members will have an opportunity to vote for candidates to fill four positions on the Harris County Green Party's Steering Committee: one co-chair, secretary, treasurer, and one at-large member.

    The voting method that HCGP has adopted for Steering Committee elections is Approval Voting: Vote for any candidates you believe will do the job to your satisfaction. As is customary in internal Green Party elections, there will be a None of the Above line for all the positions.

    Attendees wishing to vote must have attended at least two prior Meetings, which according the current bylaws includes meetings of the Steering Committee or other Standing Committees, or similar functions. See our Bylaws page for more information on elections and the duties of the Steering Committee officers.

    March 2018 Steering Committee Meeting

    The meeting is open to all members and guests who would like to place an item on the agenda, or who would just like to observe the process. Among other duties, the Steering Committee:

    • sets the agenda for the monthly General Membership meeting;
    • identifies issues of concern to the County or State Party; and
    • assigns members to handle logistics for actions to be taken.

    SC meetings start about 7 pm and usually run until 9. You can get a reasonably priced meal and dine during the meeting.

    Precinct Conventions

    This is the most important event in the 2017-18 election cycle for the Harris County Green Party and the Green Party of Texas! It begins the process of restoring ballot access for Greens in Texas for the 2018 general election.

    We want Green voters from all over the state to flood into the convention sites in their respective counties. Attendance at these conventions is the equivalent of voting in a primary, but you're voting for the Green Party and its nominees to appear on the general election ballot. It also counts as a signature on the ballot access petition.

    If you cannot appear at a convention, please let us know whether you can sign the petition. All together, we need more than 47,000 unique and valid signatures. For your signature to be valid, according to the Texas Election Code, you must:

    • be registered to vote in Texas;
    • have not voted in any other party's primary election;
    • have not attended any other party's conventions;
    • have not signed any other party's petition (or previously signed ours); and
    • provide your complete address and date of birth for verification purposes.

    Lee Camp Live

    Lee Camp, host of RT America's Redacted Tonight, is an intensely and unabashedly leftish comedian and political analyst. His act combines the penetrating observations of George Carlin with the frenetic style of Bobcat Goldthwait.

    Tour de Houston Bicycle Race

    This annual set of rides draws cycling enthusiasts from all over the area and beyond. Hermann Square at City Hall will serve as the start and finish lines. The square itself is an excellent place to chat with potential signers.

    Taking Metro downtown is strongly recommended, because parking may be difficult and expensive. Theater District parking is reserved for participants in the ride. Park & Ride service does not run on Sundays; if necessary, drive to any MetroRail terminus (Northline, Fannin South, Palm Center, or Magnolia) to catch a train to Central Station.
